New Chris Isaak DVD on the way

MULTI-TALENTED ROCKER CHRIS ISAAK HEATS UP
SUMMER WITH A SMOKING LIVE PERFORMANCE DVD FROM E1 ENTERTAINMENT

For over two decades, rockabilly crooner Chris Isaak and his longtime band Silvertone have entertained audiences with their legendary shows. This summer, fans of the multi-talented musician will get a front row seat to a world-class performance without ever having to stand in line. CHRIS ISAAK GREATEST HITS – LIVE captures Isaak at his finest, with a hi-definition, 5.1 surround sound recording of 15 of the musician’s greatest hits.

Filmed for the acclaimed PBS music series Soundstage in 2005, this unforgettable live set debuts on DVD featuring three songs not included in the original broadcast. CHRIS ISAAK GREATEST HITS – LIVE arrives in stores via E1 Entertainment on August 11 for $19.99 SRP.

With his sexy good looks and his endearingly shy yet flirtatious demeanor, Chris Isaak (who is also known for his many acting roles) knows how to woo his fans. With his reverb-drenched rockabilly and country songs, Isaak’s penchant for heartbreaking lyrics and haunting melodies embrace the ‘50s and ‘60s sound while stylizing it for contemporary audiences.

Isaak graces Soundstage with a compelling set that spans his early years on through the new millennium. The performance launches with “Dancin’ ” from his debut. Other gems include the breakthrough, mesmerizing hit, “Wicked Game” and “Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing.” As a special treat, he strips down six songs, adding an acoustic element to his very memorable performance.
With state-of-the-art digital video and sound, the live music program “Soundstage” has long been the premiere television venue for the most significant musical artists.

With the release of CHRIS ISAAK: GREATEST HITS - LIVE, E1 Entertainment continues to bring the magnificent music series to DVD for the first time. Previous E1 Entertainment Soundstage DVD releases include Rob Thomas: Live at Red Rocks (6/30), Foreigner: Live (4/09), America: Live in Chicago (9/08), and both Jewel: The Essential Live Songbook (10/08) and Sheryl Crow: Live (11/08) in standard and Blu-ray DVD formats.

After the uneven, hedonistic and dance-oriented 'Last Night', Moby takes a welcome step into more introspective territory on 'Wait For Me' - possibly his finest album to date. Isolated, sparse and fragile, taken in a single sitting (headphones a necessesity), the album is an exceptionally moving experience. Many of the songs are instrumentals, others feature an array of wispy voiced female chanteuses, and a single number (the yearning, regretful 'Mistake') includes surprisingly emotive vocals from the man himself.

See below for Moby's blog post on the album, and for more information visit Moby.com

Moby on 'Wait For Me'

i recorded the album here in my studio on the lower east side(although 'studio' always seems like an overly grand word for a bunch of equipment set up in a small bedroom). in the past i've worked in large and small studios, but for this record i wanted to record everything at home by myself.

i have some friends/guests singing on the record. they're great singers, but unless you live in fort greene or washington heights you might not know about them, as they're relatively unknown(because i've found that working with friends is almost always nicer than working with rockstars).

i started working on the album about a year ago, and the creative impetus behind the record was hearing a david lynch speech at bafta, in the uk.

david was talking about creativity, and to paraphrase, about how creativity in and of itself, and without market pressures, is fine and good.

it seems as if too often an artists or musicians or writers creative output is judged by how well it accommodates the marketplace, and how much market share it commands and how much money it generates.

in making this record i wanted to focus on making something that i loved, without really being concerned about how it might be received by the marketplace. as a result it's a quieter and more melodic and more mournful and more personal record than some of the records i've made in the past.

it's also, for better or worse, all homemade, in that i recorded it at home with my friends and drew the artwork with a black sharpie on copy paper.

the first single(if you can call an instrumental with no vocals that we're giving away for free a 'single')is called 'shot in the back of the head', and i'm happy to announce that david lynch has done the video for it. i sent him the music and said, 'please do whatever you want'. so he sat down and drew some animation that is very dark and beautiful. david lynch is my favorite film director, and i'm really happy to have him as the first video director on 'wait for me'.

here's the link to video on pitchfork:

http://pitchfork.com/tv/#/musicvideo/966-moby-shot-in-the-back-of-the-he...

i mixed the record with my friend ken thomas. he's an amazing mixer/producer, and he's worked with everyone from sigur ros to throbbing gristle to m83. mixing the record with him was really nice, as he's creatively open to trying anything(like recording an old broken bakelite radio and running it through some broken old effects pedals to see what it would sound like. it's on the record as a :45 second long track called 'stock radio'). and as a geeky technical aside, we mixed the record using purely analog equipment in true stereo, akin to how records were mixed in the late 60's(some of the songs sound pretty amazing in headphones, if i do say so myself...).

ok, that's it.

oh, one last thing, i've worked hard recording and arranging the album as a cohesive body of work. i fully understand that most people listen to individual tracks here and there, but i ask that you listen to the album from start to finish even just once. oh, and if you go to moby.com you'll see that we've redesigned it. or, rather, are in the process of redesigning it. gone are the lovely ladies from 'last night', replaced by the lonely little idiot.

thanks
moby
